Gut Flora And The Overuse of Antibiotics

Hilarion: There is a question about how to re-establish and strengthen gut flora. It is unfortunate that there is such wide utilization of antibiotics. Doctors are using them as the first choice rather than the last choice because this can wipe out gut flora, and in some individuals antibiotics wipe out gut flora permanently. These individuals struggle for the rest of their lives with various health problems and are unable to re-establish a good balance within their gut.

The work of Aajonus Vonderpalnitz and all that he has done in working with the diet of your ancestors and the diet of the animals and the deeper understanding of nutrition and the interrelationship of nutrition and biology; specifically bacteria, viruses, parasites and so on, is outstanding and we see that his work has provided success for many people in re-establishing their health by various means.

But, even in those people, the ones who have conquered some of their most difficult ones: cancer, dementia, all kinds of nervous system problems, even those problems that seemed incurable the gut has not been fully re-established. It was to this end that Vonderplanitz focused a lot of his later work. The use of various products, different substances and different ways and he was never fully successful with this.

Again, when we look at all of those methods two things are recognized that push this a little bit forward. One, is the reliance on acidophilus is as Vonderplanitz perceived, incorrect; too much yogurt, yogurt implant or yogurt ingested can gradually cause the establishment of a single bacterium or perhaps two or three.  But, the natural state, the one in which there is maximum health comprises a minimum of two thousand different varieties of flora. So, forcing one through and then causing the death of the others is not recommended.

Small amounts of yogurt is fine. Occasional implantation is fine. But, regular use, no. It is best to give a little break when you are a regular consumer of any probiotic. Any biotic of any type so that others can get established.

Second is the great difficulty using this through the mouth. That which is taken orally and eventually comes into the gut is so frequently destroyed. Hydrochloric acid in the stomach, pancreatic acid in the duodenum and various other bacteria and the different ways in which the body is able to break these down; various yeasts and molds. These all tend to attack all of these species. Not to mention of course, antibiotics.

So, how then, to bring this into the body? It does appear that the experiments that have been ongoing for the last ten years or so, principally to remove difficile, a powerful but deadly bacterium in the colon have been successful with some re-population of the the digestive tract. It is called, “implantation” and it is the way in which fecal matter from a healthy individual is implanted into a person who does not have sufficient bacteria.

This could be taken to a much higher level but at least this indicates a beginning point where this could be much better understood. Of course, you have all of your reticence to it, you have your objections to it, but we suggest that instead of looking at that you look at the success at with the difficile, that has already been taking place and the ways in which doctors have been working with this for awhile with some success. Not towards the end of repopulating the gut flora fully, but at least in healing these particular diseases.

In particular though, it is noted that there is a certain point where it is usually around 1,000, perhaps 1500 strains: different for an individual that a higher intelligence begins to emerge and the body is able to reduce the utilization of stomach acid when taking in new bacteria.

The source of bacteria, of course is in soils. This is where it all comes from and the most healthy, healing strains are found in organic soils that have been enriched with various important materials from humic acids, fulvic acids, and the list goes on.

There are some products on the market, one called , “Restore,” that claim to bring some of these in but you have the same problem since they are taken orally they are destroyed by stomach acid. Still though, it is a step in the right direction. At the very least, having vegetable juice from organic vegetables where you don’t wash the vegetables much, you allow that dirt to get in naturally is a good start. The key to this will of course be your connection to the soil. So, here, you have the spiritual connection to that dirt. You actually put your hands in that dirt and you feel it on your feet. You connect to it in various ways before you eat a little bit of it. You allow these things and you learn about them and reverse the fear that has been associated with it.

Afterall, look at the way the animals and the the way in which they survive so beautifully in the wild when they have access to all of the natural bacteria that surround them. It is in that situation by which those intestinal and other flora have been reduced that all of the problems show up.
